What Does Empathy Really Mean?

To me there is so much more to empathy than just feeling someone's emotions. It means stepping outside of yourself in every situation and asking yourself “how is this decision or action going to affect others?”.

Living from the heart means being able to step outside of yourself and live from a place that is less selfish and more about common courtesy and the “bigger picture”. There is a real epidemic in society where people “want what they want when they want it” without thinking how their actions affect other people.

Here are some ways you can show empathy to others.

1. Be On Time

When you are late to appointments, meeting, or even just getting together with friends, then the other person's life is put on hold and it makes the statement that your time is more important than someone else’s. Always do your best to be on time and respect other people’s time.

2. Consider the Other Person Before Showing Up Uninvited

Before showing up at someone's home uninvited ask yourself: what might this person be doing? Maybe they do not want to be interrupted. Are they reading, watching a movie, sleeping, having a bath, writing. etc? Once again, it’s important to be respectful of other’s time.

3. Be Aware of Other’s Needs

For example, when paying for groceries, you notice that the person behind you is in a rush. Don't spend extra time talking with the cashier, move along efficiently. Notice people around you and be aware of what their needs are.

4. Avoid Cancelling Plans at the Last Minute

Give proper notice if you need to cancel an appointment. Recognize that people have to travel to work and cancelling at the last minute means that someone has wasted time getting somewhere and they could have been able to fill the space with another client. It takes time to plan events and it is crucial to know how many people are attending for catering and other details, so if you RSVP and then don’t show it is making a statement to the host that you don't care about the planning or budget of the event.

These are just a few examples of being mindful of other people. So, next time you make decision or before taking action on something ask yourself “how is this going to affect others?”.

Random Acts of Kindness to Raise Your Vibration

When life becomes stressful and I am triggered by my ego I will do something kind for someone in order to raise my vibration and it always makes me feel better. It is a great way to become more present and a reminder to live from the heart rather than the ego.

Here are some random acts of kindness that you can do for someone:

  • When buying a coffee for yourself pay for the next person in line.

  • Help someone load their car with groceries

  • Pay double for bus fare so that the next person can have a free ride

  • Pay someone a compliment

  • Give someone flowers

  • Shovel someone's driveway

  • Walk a neighbour's dog

  • Volunteer at a homeless shelter

  • Leave your server a generous tip with a kind note

5 Ways That I Connect with My Emotions Using My Senses

1. Music

I like all genres of music and when I need to connect with my emotions the type of music I listen to is an indicator to me of how I am currently feeling emotionally. Or, it is an indicator of how I want to feel. In essence, music is a great way to connect with your emotional body.

2. Movies

I am huge fan of movies and I really like that movies allow you an opportunity to connect with different characters and situations that you can relate to or can illicit strong emotions that you may be repressing.

3. Colour

Every morning before I get dressed I always ask myself “what colour are you being drawn to wear?” Colour for me is a great way to see what chakra I am needing to balance. Colour is very powerful and each has its own vibration.

4. Physical Body

The body holds emotions and can be used to identify what needs to be released or worked on depending on how your body is feeling physically. When meditating in the morning I do a quick body scan to see what my body is trying to tell me.

5. Smell

Being present and aware of how different smells make you feel is a great way to connect quickly with your emotional body and bring you into a state of peace. Smell is very powerful and has a strong bearing on your emotions. Marilena Aiello, a cognitive neuroscience researcher discovered that there is a partial overlap between the areas in our brains which deal with olfactory perception and those which process emotions.

12 Universal Laws

There are 12 Universal laws to abide by in order to succeed in life and achieve self mastery. These Universal Laws influence our everyday lives and you cannot change that.

1) The Law of Divine Oneness

The Law of Divine Oneness is the first of the 12 Universal Laws and it helps us to understand that in this World we live, everything is connected to everything else. Every thought, words, actions and beliefs of ours affect others and the universe around us irrespective of whether the people are near or far away, in other words, beyond time and space.

2) The Law of Vibration

The Law of Vibration states that everything in the Universe vibrates, moves, and travels in circular patterns. The same principle of vibration in the physical world apply to our feelings, desires, thoughts, dreams and will. Each sound, thought or thing has its own unique vibrational frequency. When you hear people say 'like attracts like', they are actually referring to how a vibrational energy can resonate with or is attracted to the same or a similar vibrational energy.

3) The Law of Action

The Law of Action must be applied in order for us to manifest things on earth. Therefore, we must engage in actions that support our words, feelings, vision, thoughts, dreams and emotions. These actions will bring us manifestation of various results which are dependent on our specifically chosen words, thoughts, dreams, and emotions.

4) The Law of Correspondence

The Law of Correspondence basically puts us in the drivers' seat of our own lives. Our outer world is a direct reflection of our inner world, therefore, we need to accept responsibility for our own lives.

5) The Law of Cause and Effect

The Law of Cause and Effect states that nothing happens by chance or outside the Universal Laws. This means that, we have to take responsibility for everything that happens in our lives. Every action has an equal reaction or consequence and it is what we sow that we reap. You cannot plant a hibiscus flower and expect to reap a Rose flower. In other words, every thought, action, words are full of energy.

6) The Law of Compensation

This Law of Compensation is the extended arm of the Law of Cause and Effect which is applied to abundance and blessings that flow into our lives in the form of friendships, gifts, money, inheritances and other forms of blessings. These various forms of compensation are the visible effects of our direct and indirect actions carried out throughout our lives.

7) The Law of Attraction

This Law of Attraction shows how we create the events, people and things that come into our lives. All our thoughts, words, feelings and actions give out energies which, likewise attract like energies.

8) The Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy

The Law of Perpetual Transmutation of Energy is a powerful one. It states that we all have power within us to change any condition in our lives that we are not happy with. Higher energy vibration will definitely consume and transform lower ones. Therefore, we can change the energies in our lives by understanding the Universal Laws and applying the principles in such a way as to effect a positive change in our lives.

9) The Law of Relativity

The Law of Relativity states that each person will receive series of situations or problems for the purpose of strengthening the 'inner light' within us. This law makes it possible for us to stay connected to our hearts when we proceed to solve the problems or remedy the situation which is a 'test' for us.

10) The Law of Polarity

The Law of Polarity states that everything is on a continuum and has an opposite. There has to be darkness so that we might appreciate Light. There is Solid and liquid and we can see and feel the difference. We have the ability to suppress and transform undesirable thoughts by focusing on the opposite thought thereby bringing the desired positive change. This could also be likened to the law of mental vibration.

11) The Law of Rhythm

The Law of Rhythm states that everything vibrates and moves to a certain rhythm. This rhythm establishes cycles, seasons, patterns, and stages of development. Each cycle is a reflection of the regularity of God's universe. To master each rhythm, you must rise above any negative part of the cycle.

12) The Law of Gender

The Law of Gender states that everything has its masculine (yang) and feminine (yin) principles, and that these are the basis for all creation in the Universe. As spiritual beings, we must ensure that there is a balance between the masculine and feminine energies within us in order for us to become true co-creators with God.

What Is Inspired Action?

Inspired action is when you can step out of your logical mind and just “allow” an idea to come to you and then you act upon it. We as a society are so used to taking actions in an ego based way in order to try to control outcomes. Inspired action is the act of doing something when your intuition guides you to so that your life can unfold in a natural, organic way.

What Is Claircognizance?

Claircognizance is “clear knowing”. For me this is one of my main gifts and probably the one that has caused me the most confusion and difficulty in my life. Claircognizance is when you just simply “know” information that you couldn't possibly know normally. It becomes very difficult when you are communicating with someone when they are telling you something and you just “know” that they are not telling the truth. We live in a society where people are so afraid to be authentic that they end up living a lie. Being claircognizant it becomes very challenging because you can see past the illusions and know the truth despite what someone is saying to be true. I have learned to trust my inner “knowing” and rely on it heavily when discerning the motives and intentions of people. It has taken many years to fully understand this gift and how valuable it really is.

Sacred Relationships

To me a healthy relationship that is based on a soul connection has the following:

  1. Will be attracted to each other from a soul level rather than just the physical or mental level

  2. Will not need or want to change the person or make them "better".

  3. No attempt to control or manipulate

  4. You maintain your own individuality and feel free to be your authentic self.

  5. You inspire and empower each other to be the best versions of yourselves.

  6. Equality

  7. No emotional neediness or seeking for approval.

  8. Feel safe to be vulnerable with each other and support each others expression of emotions with compassion.

  9. Passion and intimacy - sexuality is a very important and crucial part of a relationship and a way to connect more deeply physically, emotionally and spiritually.

This is a beautiful written poem by the prophet Kahlil Gibran on marriage:

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

What Are Bach Flower Remedies?

Who was Dr. Edward Bach?
Dr. Edward Bach was a British Physician, who began to see disease as an end product, a final stage, a physical manifestation of unhappiness, fear and worry. He therefore, began to look to nature to find healing flowers. Over a period of years Dr. Bach found 38 healing flowers and plants that with the right preparation became the 38 Bach Flower Remedies. These remedies are enough to remove all negative emotional problems.

How do the Remedies work?
The Bach Flower Remedies is a safe and natural method of healing. They gently restore the balance between mind and body by casting out negative emotions such as fear, worry, hatred and indecision which interfere with the equilibrium of the being as a whole. The Bach Flower Remedies allow peace and happiness to return to the sufferer so that the body is free to heal itself.

How are the Bach Flower Remedies made?
The Bach Flower Remedies are made 100% naturally from spring water infused with wild flowers, either by the sun-steeped method or by boiling. The Remedies are hand produced exclusively in England. The Remedies contain 27% grape based brandy as a preservative. Or the alcohol free versions are preserved in glycerin made from sunflowers.

How do I prepare a treatment bottle?
Prepare a Bach treatment bottle by adding 2 drops of each Remedy (up to 7 Remedies) to a 30ml/1 oz mixing bottle and fill with spring water. As preservative (optional) you can add 1-2 teaspoons of brandy, apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerin in the treatment bottle. From this mixture, take 4 drops (or 2 sprays) 4 times a day until you feel better.

The biggest lesson I have learned in my life is to always use discernment when making decisions before just following the crowd. There is so much information out there these days about spirituality, technology, different “movements” etc etc. Before doing what you think you “should” do or believing that everyone is doing it so it must be right, stop, go within and listen to your own voice. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why would I want to do this or believe this?

  • Does this fit with my own values and morals?

  • Does this feel good to me? If it doesn't then don't do it. Your body will tell you if it aligns with you.

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

— Buddha

The Stigma of Spirituality

There has always been such a stigma surrounding spirituality and that it means that you no longer want prosperity and abundance and believe you will want to start living a “hippy type” lifestyle. People become confused and resistant when they start awakening because life starts falling apart (losing jobs, money, friends etc) and they don't know why and think that to be spiritual means being poor. Nothing could be further from the truth. True spirituality is awakening to your true divine nature and living a high vibrational life where you are able to manifest your dreams and live in prosperity and abundance doing what you are divinely meant to do. In order to live in a higher vibration you must shed all the belief systems and programs that you are taught from family, community etc growing up. which lead people to live in a fear, ego, survival based world (very low vibration). As you raise your vibration things have to fall away that no longer are a vibrational match with you (friends, jobs, etc), so it appears that life is falling apart when in reality you are making space for things, people etc that are aligned with your new vibration. When people become spiritually awakened and enlightened their soul takes over the drivers seat and the ego takes a back seat and you no longer want to achieve success in the same egoic way. When aligned with your true purpose you are living in a heart-based very high vibration life and success becomes easy and abundance and prosperity flow into your world. Just a shift in consciousness and thinking. You no longer see the need to compete out of survival but know that you are creating your reality and can manifest whatever you want because it is simply a universal law and you are now aligned to that.

All About the Sacral Chakra

As another chakra week ends on our Facebook page, we have compiled all the information we shared into a blog post for easy reference.

Sanskrit: Suhadhisthana Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is located just below the naval and is associated with creativity, sexuality, commitment, passion and sensitivity.

When this chakra is balanced we feel sexual, creative and comfortable being expressive.

If you have low libido, have a creative block or are having reproductive issues or lower back problems these are signs that your sacral chakra is imbalanced.

Colour Associated with Sacral Chakra:

Orange is an energizing and creative color. It promotes a feeling of warmth and security. This color brings to mind thoughts and feelings of passion, pleasure and sexuality. Orange can make you feel sensual, safe and abundant.

Foods that will help balance Sacral Chakra:

High vibration foods that have bright orange colour or are fairly dense are great for sacral chakra.

  •  Mandarins

  • Mangoes

  • Carrots

  • Squash

  • Pumpkin

  • Yams

  • Seeds

Signs of Low and High Vibration

The reality is that most of us share some forms of “low vibration” and other forms of “high vibration,” but the goal is to become aware of what you are excelling at and what you could improve on within your journey of inner evolution, or Involution.

One of the easiest ways to determine whether you are vibrating at a “high frequency” or a “low frequency” is by paying attention to how you physically feel. Do you feel light, energized, clear and healthy? Chances are you have a high vibration. On the other hand, if you feel weighed down, repressed, oppressed, stuffy or heavy, you are most likely operating on a low vibration.

Before you read the lists below, it’s important to remember 2 things. Firstly, you are rarely ever 100% “either/or” anything in life. Consciousness Frequencies - How do they work?

The progress toward the attainment of higher consciousness can be derived through the research of Dr. David Hawkins, in Power vs. Force, through a concept he calls ‘consciousness frequencies’. The consciousness frequency of humanity underwent a major shift around the Harmonic Convergence in 1987, and again surrounding the events of September 11, 2001.

According to Dr. Hawkins’ research, the scale of consciousness frequencies runs from 0-1000, with a turning point around 200, where we move from self-destructive to life-enhancing experiences. At the bottom of the scale is shame, progressing up through apathy, grief, and fear, to anger, pride, and finally, at level 200, to courage. Above this line, beginning with courage, it progresses up to neutrality, acceptance, reason, then further up to love, joy, peace, and finally reaching level 700 embarks on the various states of enlightenment. The journey up this scale is representative of our individual spiritual evolution.

According to Dr. Hawkins’ system the average human consciousness on the planet right now is just below 200, yet the collective human consciousness is above this line. This paradox is due to the fact that the people vibrating at a much higher level of consciousness along this scale helps to counterbalance the majority of others vibrating below 200.

The scale advances logarithmically. For instance, one person vibrating at love, which is 500 on the scale, counterbalances 750,000 individuals below the line, while one enlightened person at 700 counterbalances 70 million others below the line!

Courage (200) – The first level of true strength. This is where one starts to see life as challenging and exciting instead of overwhelming. This level promotes interest in personal growth, such as skill-building, career advancement, and further education. Here a person starts to see their future as an improvement upon their past, rather than a continuation of the same.

Neutrality (250) – This level is epitomized by the phrase, “live and let live.” It’s flexible, relaxed, and unattached. Whatever happens, there is no need to have anything to prove. One feels safe and easily relating with other people. This is a very comfortable place sometimes promoting a level of complacency and laziness. Here a person is taking care of their needs, but won’t push too hard.

Willingness (310) – At this level a persona is safe and comfortable, and can start using their energy more effectively. One begins to take action and thinks about time management, productivity, and getting organized, things that weren’t so important at the level of neutrality. This is the level where the development of willpower and self-discipline becomes important. This is the point where one consciousness becomes more organized and disciplined.

Acceptance (350) – This is the level where a powerful shift happens, and one awakens to the possibilities of living proactively. At the level of willingness one becomes competent, and now their

abilities are multiplied to good use. This is the level of setting and achieving goals. This level drives many people to switch careers, start a new business, or change their lifestyle.

Reason (400) – At this level one transcends the emotional aspects of the lower levels and begins to think clearly, rationally, and start making meaningful contributions. Hawkins defines this as the level of medicine and science. At the very high end, this is the level of Einstein and Freud.

Love (500) – Unconditional love, a permanent understanding of one’s connectedness with all that exists, a deep sense of compassion. At the level of reason, one is living in service to the mind. At the level of love, one now places their mind and all your other talents and abilities in service to one’s heart. This is the level of awakening to one’s true purpose. All motives at this level are pure and uncorrupted by the desires of the ego. This is the level of lifetime service to humanity and beginning to feel as being guided by a force greater than oneself. Examples are Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Dr. Albert Schweitzer. Hawkins claims this level is reached only by 1 in 250 people during their entire lifetimes.

Joy (540) – This is the ultimate state of pervasive, unshakable happiness. Eckhart Tolle describes this state in The Power of Now. This is the level of saints and advanced spiritual teachers. Just being around people at this level makes one feel incredible. At this level life is fully guided by synchronicity and intuition. There’s no more need to set goals and make detailed plans — the expansion of your consciousness allows one to operate at a much higher level.

Peace (600) – Supreme transcendence. Hawkins claims this level is reached only by one person in 10 million.

Enlightenment (700-1000) – The highest level of human consciousness, where humanity blends with divinity. Extremely rare. The level of Krishna, Buddha, and Jesus. Even to just think and study about people at this level can raise one’s consciousness.

All About the Root Chakra

We recently completed Root Chakra Week on our Facebook page, and we thought we'd compile all that information into a blog post! Please use this post to refer back to as needed for information about the Root Chakra.

The Root Chakra or Muladhara Chakra is located at the base of the spine and is associated with security, family, and feeling grounded. Primal instincts and our more earthly thoughts and actions are all root chakra. Stresses related to survival, including financial, professional and housing indicate that you need to realign your root chakra.

The colour associated with the root chakra is red. Red is a very physical colour. It promotes a feeling of being grounded and connected to the earth. This colour brings to mind thoughts and feelings of survival and instinct. Red can make you feel alert, vigilant and primal.

Any high vibrational foods with red pigment or grounding properties can help recharge the root chakra:

  • Tomatoes
  • Strawberries
  • Beets
  • Pomegranates
  • Raspberries
  • Protein
